Pi Computer Board
Raspberry Pi CPU

My son in Charlotte, NC loves astronomy. He takes pictures of the planets and star clusters at night. Now, courtesy of a Raspberry Pi-2 computer, his telescope is positioned to photograph the objects he wants from the comfort of his easy chair automatically. He doesn’t go outside anymore to position it or snap a picture. He consults his star map for time and where in the sky the celestial object will be. Then he instructs Pi-2 computer to do it for him.

He has introduced me to Kodi (a mass media center for movies, music, and pictures) software for a Raspberry Pi-2 computer. As a movie buff I’m enjoying Kodi.

Now I am hooked and working on my own Raspberry Pi-2 project to have motion activated video cameras watch my home and send snapshots or what triggered the motion detector to an email address. Pi-2 will also let me view in real time what it sees in my home. Two cameras watch over the interior of my home and the entrances. This is in addition to the ADT alarm system present.

The Raspberry Pi Zero is half the size of a Model A+, with twice the utility. A tiny Raspberry Pi that’s affordable enough for any project!

  • 1Ghz, Single-core CPU
  • 512MB RAM
  • Mini HDMI and USB On-The-Go ports
  • Micro USB power
  • HAT-compatible 40-pin header
  • Composite video and reset headers

Did I mention Wi-Fi and blue tooth capability built in. A HDMI port, 4 USB ports, and an Ethernet port? Equipment and computer cost way less than $ 80 dollars.
