The last week in March I’m launching a Self-publishing 101 online class for authors dealing specifically with eBook publishing for Amazon Kindle, or the Nook of Barnes and Noble, even Apple eBooks.

The lectures and videos have been assembled for this course. Do you want to be a beta student of the course? I can provide a coupon for a 66 percent discount off the course. Just email me at with the subject line containing Coupon.

Let me know your criticisms and good points of the course.  It’s the second of a proposed three course online curriculum.

  1. How to Write?
  2. How to Create an Ebook?
  3. How to Market an Ebook?

Just how do you create an eBook out of your written manuscript?

  • First, by styling your word processor’s manuscript into normal paragraphs, headings, and book content sections your eBook should have
  • Second, a good cover page for your book’s genre appealing to its readers.
  • Third, would be a methodology for publishing the Mobi or Epub eBook.
  • Fourth, its distribution to the marketplace through Kindle, Draft2Digital, or Reedsy.

The learning style is hands-on. You will create two fiction and two non-fiction eBooks during the course. The tools I selected will be explained and used by you in the course. You’ll get your hand dirty in the course, creating real eBooks.

Drop me a line!

My CreateSpace journey has been one of struggle because of my lack of printed book publication experience. Choosing the best trim size for my paperback books. Then selecting the appropriate margins, gutter and margins for the interior design of my books. Next up was the cover image front, back, and spine. My major struggle was with headers, footers, and page numbers in my books. The choice of heading and body text fonts seemed to never end until I found two I could live with on my cover and inside my book.

All the work and struggles occurred in Word for my CreateSpace books. Finally, a YouTube video showed me how to handle headers and footers for my paperback books.

Now the next major project is to convert all my eBooks into CreateSpace paperbacks. Holding a physical book, I wrote in my hands still delights me.

This course will be opening soon once the vouchers are set. I want some beta students to take the course and comment on its weaknesses, suggest an improvement, and tell me what worked.

The course will guide you in the tasks of turning a word processing fiction or non-fiction manuscript into an eBook.

  • An Amazon Kindle Mobi eBook
  • An Epub eBook for Apple, Nook, Kobo

You will use Open Office or Microsoft Word software to write the book manuscript. How to turn to manuscript into HTML code will be addressed. Styling of the HTML code by CSS will be shown to you.

  • Open Office or Word processor
  • Internet HTML conversion website
  • Notepad++ my favorite editor
  • Sigil software will create Kindle and non-Kindle eBooks at will.
  • Lectures, video screen captures of eBook production tasks. Coupled with a workbook in PDF, Epub, or Mobi format.

You will get your hands dirty creating four eBooks, two for fiction work and two for non-fiction. Writing templates for Word or OpenOffice are provided to you for download. Except for Microsoft Word the software I demonstrate to create eBooks are free. Note I said; you will create eBooks. I show you how and answer questions about the self-publishing tasks you perform. You may refer to my four eBooks as your behind the scenes reference.

This course will not teach you how to write, or produce paperback books. It’s all about making eBooks. You must do the exercises to get hands on learning. Otherwise, it’s just armchair learning not put in practice. Yes, I will mentor you to create eBooks.

If interested email me for a course voucher for 66% off of the full price.

What’s Going on in 2016?

2016 brought with it successes and bad news from the Association of American Publisher regarding pubishing. Sales in the first half of 1016 were 5.37 billion dollars.

  • Adult books down by 2.8 %.
  • Children and YA books up by 0.9 %.
  • Religions books up by 10.4 %.
  • Ebooks were down by 20 %.
  • Paperback books grew by 8.8%
  • Audio downloads grew by 32.3 %.

Surprises to me were religious books gains over first six month of 2015. Need to investigate what genres are growing in religion book markets. Looks like I will definitely using CreateSpace to produce paperback book copies of my ebook. Ebook decline continues so authors should focus on finding niches that sells.

What’s up with audio downloads? That’s a big jump! See more date at

Once Again CreateSpace Delivers

My second CreateSpace paperback book was published this week. I tracked the steps used to format a Word manuscript into a CreateSpace paperback. The third attempt went smoothly and is detailed in my upcoming paperback book titled, ”CreateSpace Quick & Easy Self-Publishing Guide.”

Launch date will be Friday, October 28. Amazon Kindle and Epub versions via Draft2Digital will be released together. CreateSpace version will be available the following week.

The glow of publishing another work of mine is fading; but the itch is growing for another non-fiction book. The hardest task facing me upon writing the last three manuscripts was delivering enough details to make these books worthwhile.

Need time to do some Fiverr gigs formatting Word manuscripts to ebooks. Check back later.

Yep, I tried successfully to use Createspace to publish a hardbound version of my new eBook “How to Guide: Easier, Faster EBook Publishing for Beginners.” The questions were easy to read but what they meant wasn’t.

Ignorance of publishing terms contributed to my confusion. So I did the research to clear the term I didn’t know. Then I figured out how to do running headers and footer with Microsoft Word. Now I was rolling right along with interior book design and cover art.

I did the interior book design formatting with Word. was used to produce my PDF cover for my book.  It was only $ 15 and 24 hours of wait time.

My book is scheduled for a final review yesterday. Next step will be a printed copy for my review and approval. If I say yes, it goes up in the Createspace and Amazon eBook catalog within 14 hours of my approval.

My grown children don’t consider eBooks to be real books. Hard bound books rule followed by paperback books. True, holding your own book is a thrill and an additional reason to do book signings.

Today I sent my newest non-fiction eBook out into the cruel world to earn  a living for me! The books topic is self-publishing. It will be nice for me if it makes passive income for me. There is nothing better than receiving OPM. Other People’s Money spends well when I receive it.

I gently lead the reader from their created manuscript to self-publishing a properly formatted eBook for Amazon Kindle or other ePub readers. You won’t learn how to write a book. You will instead learn how to produce one starting with a word processor. Convert the manuscript into an HTML file and style with a CSS stylesheet.

Your will be shown the methodology and tools to do so when you buy it at Amazon eBooks  or through one of Draft2Digital’s ePub distributors. The software product Sigil is the real key to producing ePub eBooks.

Not using Smashwords as an eBook distributor this time.

PublishXpress website has an application that will turn a Word docx file into an ePub and a Mobi file. For those who publish with Word this might be a good tool to investigate. I’m not an affiliate for this company.

I tried it and it did do the conversions. Don’t know how long the website will be up. I hope forever (smile). Anyone who uses it and likes the output; please send me a comment on it.
